6:1

Καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ἐκεῖθεν καὶ ἔρχεται εἰς τὴν πατρίδα αὐτοῦ ἀκολουθοῦσιν αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταὶ

kai exēlthen ekeithen kai erchetai eis tēn patrida autou akolouthousin autō hoi mathētai

And it came forth from there And comes for the hometown of Him’” follow to Him - disciples

¹And he went out from there and comes to his homeland; his disciples follow him.

6:2

καὶ γενομένου σαββάτου ἤρξατο διδάσκειν ἐν τῇ συναγωγῇ οἱ πολλοὶ ἀκούοντες ἐξεπλήσσοντο λέγοντες Πόθεν τούτῳ ταῦτα τίς ἡ σοφία δοθεῖσα τούτῳ; αἱ δυνάμεις τοιαῦται διὰ τῶν χειρῶν αὐτοῦ γινόμεναι;

kai genomenou sabbatou ērxato didaskein en tē synagōgē hoi polloi akouontes exeplēssonto legontes Pothen toutō tauta tis hē sophia dotheisa toutō hai dynameis toiautai dia tōn cheirōn autou ginomenai

And having come Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue - many having heard they were astonished saying From where to this [man] these things who the wisdom having been given to Him the miracles such on account of of the hands of Him’” are done?

²And the sabbath having come he began to teach in the synagogue; having heard, many were astonished saying, Where [did] this [man get] these things? What [is] the wisdom given to him [and] the mighty deeds done by his hands?

6:3

οὐχ οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ τέκτων υἱὸς τῆς Μαρίας καὶ ἀδελφὸς Ἰακώβου Ἰωσῆτος Ἰούδα Σίμωνος; οὐκ εἰσὶν αἱ ἀδελφαὶ αὐτοῦ ὧδε πρὸς ἡμᾶς; ἐσκανδαλίζοντο ἐν αὐτῷ

ouch houtos estin ho tektōn huios tēs Marias kai adelphos Iakōbou Iōsētos Iouda Simōnos ouk eisin hai adelphai autou hōde pros hēmas eskandalizonto en autō

not this is - carpenter son - of Mary And brother James Joseph Judas Simon? not are the sisters of Him’” here to us? they took offense in to Him

³Is this not the carpenter, son of Mary and brother of James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon? Are not his sisters here with us? They were taking offense at him.

6:4

Καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς ὅτι Οὐκ ἔστιν προφήτης ἄτιμος εἰ μὴ ἐν τῇ πατρίδι αὐτοῦ καὶ τοῖς συγγενεῦσιν οἰκίᾳ

kai elegen autois ho Iēsous hoti Ouk estin prophētēs atimos ei mē en tē patridi autou kai tois syngeneusin oikia

And He said to them - Jesus - Not is a prophet without honor if not in the hometown of Him’” And on the relatives house

⁴And Jesus was saying to them, A prophet is not dishonored if not in his homeland and in his relatives' house.

6:5

καὶ οὐκ ἐδύνατο ἐκεῖ ποιῆσαι οὐδεμίαν δύναμιν εἰ μὴ ὀλίγοις ἀρρώστοις ἐπιθεὶς τὰς χεῖρας ἐθεράπευσεν

kai ouk edynato ekei poiēsai oudemian dynamin ei mē oligois arrōstois epitheis tas cheiras etherapeusen

And not was able there to do not any power if not on a few sick having laid the hands He healed

⁵And he was not able to do any powerful works there except having laid his hands on a few sick he healed [them].

6:6

καὶ ἐθαύμαζεν* διὰ τὴν ἀπιστίαν αὐτῶν Καὶ περιῆγεν τὰς κώμας κύκλῳ διδάσκων

kai ethaumazen dia tēn apistian autōn kai periēgen tas kōmas kyklō didaskōn

And He was amazed on account of the unbelief of them And He was going the villages in a circle teaching

⁶And he was amazed because of their unbelief, and he was going around to the villages teaching.

6:7

Καὶ προσκαλεῖται τοὺς δώδεκα καὶ ἤρξατο αὐτοὺς ἀποστέλλειν δύο ἐδίδου αὐτοῖς ἐξουσίαν τῶν πνευμάτων ἀκαθάρτων

kai proskaleitai tous dōdeka kai ērxato autous apostellein dyo edidou autois exousian tōn pneumatōn akathartōn

And calls near the twelve And he began they to send forth two began yielding to them authority of the spirits unclean

6:8

καὶ παρήγγειλεν αὐτοῖς ἵνα μηδὲν αἴρωσιν εἰς ὁδὸν εἰ μὴ ῥάβδον μόνον ἄρτον πήραν τὴν ζώνην χαλκόν

kai parēngeilen autois hina mēden airōsin eis hodon ei mē rhabdon monon arton pēran tēn zōnēn chalkon

And He instructed to them so that to none they should take for way if not a staff only bread bag the a belt money

ἀλλὰ ὑποδεδεμένους σανδάλια καὶ μὴ ἐνδύσησθε δύο χιτῶνας

alla hypodedemenous sandalia kai mē endysēsthe dyo chitōnas

But wearing sandals And not put on two tunics

Καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς Ὅπου ἐὰν εἰσέλθητε εἰς οἰκίαν ἐκεῖ μένετε ἕως ἂν ἐξέλθητε ἐκεῖθεν

kai elegen autois Hopou ean eiselthēte eis oikian ekei menete heōs an exelthēte ekeithen

And He said to them Wherever if you enter for house there remain until - you go out from there

6:11

καὶ ὃς ἂν τόπος μὴ δέξηται ὑμᾶς μηδὲ ἀκούσωσιν ὑμῶν ἐκπορευόμενοι ἐκεῖθεν ἐκτινάξατε τὸν χοῦν ὑποκάτω τῶν ποδῶν εἰς μαρτύριον αὐτοῖς ⧼Ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ἀνεκτότερον ἔσται Σοδόμοις ἢ Γομόρροις ἐν ἡμέρᾳ κρίσεως τῇ πόλει ἐκείνῃ⧽

kai hos an topos mē dexētai hymas mēde akousōsin hymōn ekporeuomenoi ekeithen ektinaxate ton choun hypokatō tōn podōn eis martyrion autois Amēn legō hymin anektoteron estai Sodomois ē Gomorrois en hēmera kriseōs tē polei ekeinē

And who - place not will receive you not even they hear you departing from there shake off the dust under of the feet for a testimony to them Truly I say to you more tolerable it will be for Sodom or Gomorrah in days of judgment the town for

Καὶ ἐξελθόντες ἐκήρυξαν ἵνα μετανοῶσιν

kai exelthontes ekēryxan hina metanoōsin

And having gone forth they preached so that they should repent

καὶ δαιμόνια πολλὰ ἐξέβαλλον ἤλειφον ἐλαίῳ πολλοὺς ἀρρώστους ἐθεράπευον

kai daimonia polla exeballon ēleiphon elaiō pollous arrōstous etherapeuon

And demons many they were casting out were anointing with oil many sick healing [them]

6:14

Καὶ ἤκουσεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Ἡρῴδης φανερὸν γὰρ ἐγένετο τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔλεγον ὅτι Ἰωάννης Βαπτίζων ἐγήγερται ἐκ νεκρῶν διὰ τοῦτο ἐνεργοῦσιν αἱ δυνάμεις ἐν αὐτῷ

kai ēkousen ho basileus Hērōdēs phaneron gar egeneto to onoma autou kai elegon hoti Iōannēs Baptizōn egēgertai ek nekrōn dia touto energousin hai dynameis en autō

And heard - King Herod known for it came to pass the [the] name of Him’” And were saying - John baptizing is risen from [the] dead on account of this operate the miracles in to Him

ἄλλοι δὲ ἔλεγον ὅτι Ἠλίας ἐστίν Προφήτης ὡς εἷς τῶν προφητῶν

alloi de elegon hoti Ēlias estin prophētēs hōs heis tōn prophētōn

these however were saying - Elijah He is A prophet as alone of the prophets

6:16

Ἀκούσας δὲ ὁ Ἡρῴδης ἔλεγεν Ὃν ἐγὼ ἀπεκεφάλισα Ἰωάννην οὗτος ἠγέρθη

akousas de ho Hērōdēs elegen Hon egō apekephalisa Iōannēn houtos ēgerthē

Having heard however - Herod He said Whom I beheaded of John this [man] he arose

6:17

Αὐτὸς γὰρ ὁ Ἡρῴδης ἀποστείλας ἐκράτησεν τὸν Ἰωάννην καὶ ἔδησεν αὐτὸν ἐν φυλακῇ διὰ Ἡρῳδιάδα τὴν γυναῖκα Φιλίππου τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ αὐτοῦ ὅτι αὐτὴν ἐγάμησεν

autos gar ho Hērōdēs aposteilas ekratēsen ton Iōannēn kai edēsen auton en phylakē dia Hērōdiada tēn gynaika Philippou tou adelphou autou hoti autēn egamēsen

He for - Herod having sent seized the of John And bound him in prison on account of Herodias the wife of Philip of the brother of Him’” - her he had married

6:18

ἔλεγεν γὰρ ὁ Ἰωάννης τῷ Ἡρῴδῃ ὅτι Οὐκ ἔξεστίν σοι ἔχειν τὴν γυναῖκα τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ σου

elegen gar ho Iōannēs tō Hērōdē hoti Ouk exestin soi echein tēn gynaika tou adelphou sou

He said for - John - to Herod - Not it is lawful to You to have the wife of the brother of You

6:19

Ἡ δὲ Ἡρῳδιὰς ἐνεῖχεν αὐτῷ καὶ ἤθελεν αὐτὸν ἀποκτεῖναι οὐκ ἠδύνατο

HĒ de Hērōdias eneichen autō kai ēthelen auton apokteinai ouk ēdynato

The however Herodias held it to Him And he wanted him to kill not was able

6:20

ὁ γὰρ Ἡρῴδης ἐφοβεῖτο τὸν Ἰωάννην εἰδὼς αὐτὸν ἄνδρα δίκαιον καὶ ἅγιον συνετήρει αὐτόν ἀκούσας αὐτοῦ πολλὰ ἠπόρει ἡδέως ἤκουεν

ho gar Hērōdēs ephobeito ton Iōannēn eidōs auton andra dikaion kai hagion synetērei auton akousas autou polla ēporei hēdeōs ēkouen

- for Herod was afraid of the of John knowing him [to be] a man righteous And holy he kept safe Him having heard of Him’” many he was perplexed gladly heard

Καὶ γενομένης ἡμέρας εὐκαίρου ὅτε Ἡρῴδης τοῖς γενεσίοις αὐτοῦ δεῖπνον ἐποίησεν μεγιστᾶσιν καὶ χιλιάρχοις πρώτοις τῆς Γαλιλαίας

kai genomenēs hēmeras eukairou hote Hērōdēs tois genesiois autou deipnon epoiēsen megistasin kai chiliarchois prōtois tēs Galilaias

And having come days opportune when Herod on the birthday of Him’” a banquet did great men And chief captains leading [men] - of Galilee

καὶ εἰσελθούσης τῆς θυγατρὸς αὐτῆς Ἡρῳδιάδος ὀρχησαμένης ἤρεσεν τῷ Ἡρῴδῃ τοῖς συνανακειμένοις ««ὁ 〈〈δὲ〉 βασιλεὺς» ⇔ εἶπεν κορασίῳ Αἴτησόν με ὃ ἐὰν θέλῃς δώσω σοι

kai eiselthousēs tēs thygatros autēs Hērōdiados orchēsamenēs ēresen tō Hērōdē tois synanakeimenois ho de basileus eipen korasiō Aitēson me ho ean thelēs dōsō soi

And having come in - daughter her Herodias having danced pleased - to Herod on the reclining with [him] - And the king said girl Ask me that which if You are willing I will give to You

6:23

καὶ ὤμοσεν αὐτῇ [Πολλά] Ὅ¦τι ἐάν με αἰτήσῃς δώσω σοι ἕως ἡμίσους τῆς βασιλείας μου

kai ōmosen autē polla HOti ean me aitēsēs dōsō soi heōs hēmisous tēs basileias mou

And he swore on her Whatever that if me you might ask I will give to You until half - kingdom of Me

6:24

Καὶ ἐξελθοῦσα εἶπεν τῇ μητρὶ αὐτῆς Τί αἰτήσωμαι; Ἡ δὲ Τὴν κεφαλὴν Ἰωάννου τοῦ Βαπτίζοντος

kai exelthousa eipen tē mētri autēs Ti aitēsōmai HĒ de Tēn kephalēn Iōannou tou Baptizontos

And having gone out said the mother her What shall I ask? The however The head John of the baptizing

6:25

Καὶ εἰσελθοῦσα εὐθὺς μετὰ σπουδῆς πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα ᾐτήσατο λέγουσα Θέλω ἵνα ἐξαυτῆς δῷς μοι ἐπὶ πίνακι τὴν κεφαλὴν Ἰωάννου τοῦ Βαπτιστοῦ

kai eiselthousa euthys meta spoudēs pros ton basilea ētēsato legousa Thelō hina exautēs dōs moi epi pinaki tēn kephalēn Iōannou tou Baptistou

And having entered immediately with haste to the king she asked saying I am willing so that at once you give Me at a platter the head John of the Baptist

6:26

Καὶ περίλυπος γενόμενος ὁ βασιλεὺς διὰ τοὺς ὅρκους καὶ ἀνακειμένους οὐκ ἠθέλησεν ἀθετῆσαι αὐτήν

kai perilypos genomenos ho basileus dia tous horkous kai anakeimenous ouk ēthelēsen athetēsai autēn

And encompassingly sorrowful having been made - King on account of the oaths And reclining with [him] not was he willing to refuse her

καὶ εὐθὺς ἀποστείλας ὁ βασιλεὺς σπεκουλάτορα ἐπέταξεν ἐνέγκαι τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ ἀπελθὼν ἀπεκεφάλισεν αὐτὸν ἐν τῇ φυλακῇ

kai euthys aposteilas ho basileus spekoulatora epetaxen enenkai tēn kephalēn autou apelthōn apekephalisen auton en tē phylakē

And immediately having sent - King an executioner he commanded to be brought the head of Him’” having gone he beheaded him in the prison

καὶ ἤνεγκεν τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ πίνακι ἔδωκεν αὐτὴν τῷ κορασίῳ τὸ κοράσιον τῇ μητρὶ αὐτῆς

kai ēnenken tēn kephalēn autou epi pinaki edōken autēn tō korasiō to korasion tē mētri autēs

And brought the head of Him’” at a platter he gave her - girl the girl the mother her

6:29

καὶ ἀκούσαντες οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ ἦλθον* ἦραν τὸ πτῶμα ἔθηκαν αὐτὸ ἐν μνημείῳ

kai akousantes hoi mathētai autou ēlthon ēran to ptōma ethēkan auto en mnēmeiō

And having heard [of it] - disciples of Him’” came took up the body laid it in [a] tomb

6:30

Καὶ συνάγονται οἱ ἀπόστολοι πρὸς τὸν Ἰησοῦν καὶ ἀπήγγειλαν αὐτῷ πάντα ὅσα ἐποίησαν ἐδίδαξαν

kai synagontai hoi apostoloi pros ton Iēsoun kai apēngeilan autō panta hosa epoiēsan edidaxan

And are gathered together - apostles to the Jesus And proclaimed [it] to Him all how much they had done they had taught

6:31

καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς Δεῦτε ὑμεῖς αὐτοὶ κατ’ ἰδίαν εἰς ἔρημον τόπον ἀναπαύσασθε ὀλίγον ἦσαν γὰρ οἱ ἐρχόμενοι ὑπάγοντες πολλοί οὐδὲ φαγεῖν εὐκαίρουν

kai legei autois Deute hymeis autoi kat’ idian eis erēmon topon anapausasthe oligon ēsan gar hoi erchomenoi hypagontes polloi oude phagein eukairoun

And He says to them Come you yourselves With private for wilderness a place rest a little they were for - coming going many nor to eat had they opportunity

Καὶ ἀπῆλθον ἐν τῷ πλοίῳ εἰς ἔρημον τόπον κατ’ ἰδίαν

kai apēlthon en tō ploiō eis erēmon topon kat’ idian

And they went away in - boat for wilderness a place With private

6:33

καὶ εἶδον αὐτοὺς ὑπάγοντας ἐπέγνωσαν πολλοί πεζῇ ἀπὸ πασῶν τῶν πόλεων συνέδραμον ἐκεῖ προῆλθον αὐτούς

kai eidon autous hypagontas epegnōsan polloi pezē apo pasōn tōn poleōn synedramon ekei proēlthon autous

And they saw they going recognized many on foot from all of the cities ran together there went before them

6:34

Καὶ ἐξελθὼν εἶδεν πολὺν ὄχλον καὶ ἐσπλαγχνίσθη ἐπ’ αὐτοὺς ὅτι ἦσαν ὡς πρόβατα μὴ ἔχοντα ποιμένα ἤρξατο διδάσκειν πολλά

kai exelthōn eiden polyn ochlon kai esplanchnisthē ep’ autous hoti ēsan hōs probata mē echonta poimena ērxato didaskein polla

And having gone out he saw a great crowd And was moved with compassion in they - they were as sheep not having a shepherd he began to teach many things

Καὶ ἤδη ὥρας πολλῆς γενομένης προσελθόντες αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ ἔλεγον ὅτι Ἔρημός ἐστιν ὁ τόπος καὶ ὥρα πολλή

kai ēdē hōras pollēs genomenēs proselthontes autō hoi mathētai autou elegon hoti Erēmos estin ho topos kai hōra pollē

And already the hour late having come having come to Him - disciples of Him’” were saying - Desolate is - place And an hour late

ἀπόλυσον αὐτούς ἵνα ἀπελθόντες εἰς τοὺς κύκλῳ ἀγροὺς καὶ κώμας ἀγοράσωσιν ἑαυτοῖς τί φάγωσιν

apolyson autous hina apelthontes eis tous kyklō agrous kai kōmas agorasōsin heautois ti phagōsin

Dismiss them so that having gone for the in a circle region And villages they might buy themselves Which to eat

6:37

Ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Δότε ὑμεῖς φαγεῖν Καὶ λέγουσιν αὐτῷ Ἀπελθόντες ἀγοράσωμεν δηναρίων διακοσίων ἄρτους καὶ δώσομεν φαγεῖν;

ho de apokritheis eipen autois Dote hymeis phagein kai legousin autō Apelthontes agorasōmen dēnariōn diakosiōn artous kai dōsomen phagein

- however He answering said to them Give you to eat And they speak to Him Having gone shall we buy denarii two hundred loaves And give to eat?

Ὁ δὲ λέγει αὐτοῖς Πόσους ἔχετε ⇔ ἄρτους; ὑπάγετε ἴδετε Καὶ γνόντες λέγουσιν Πέντε καὶ δύο ἰχθύας

ho de legei autois Posous echete artous hypagete idete kai gnontes legousin Pente kai dyo ichthyas

- however He says to them How many have you loaves? Go see And having known they speak Five And two fish

Καὶ ἐπέταξεν αὐτοῖς ἀνακλῖναι* πάντας συμπόσια ἐπὶ τῷ χλωρῷ χόρτῳ

kai epetaxen autois anaklinai pantas symposia epi tō chlōrō chortō

And he commanded to them to make recline all groups at - green grass

καὶ ἀνέπεσαν πρασιαὶ κατὰ ἑκατὸν πεντήκοντα

kai anepesan prasiai kata hekaton pentēkonta

And they sat down groups with hundreds fifties

6:41

Καὶ λαβὼν τοὺς πέντε ἄρτους καὶ δύο ἰχθύας ἀναβλέψας εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν εὐλόγησεν κατέκλασεν ἐδίδου τοῖς μαθηταῖς ‹αὐτοῦ› ἵνα παρατιθῶσιν αὐτοῖς ἐμέρισεν πᾶσιν

kai labōn tous pente artous kai dyo ichthyas anablepsas eis ton ouranon eulogēsen kateklasen edidou tois mathētais autou hina paratithōsin autois emerisen pasin

And having taken the five loaves And two fish having looked up for the heaven He blessed broke began yielding on the disciples of Him so that they might set before to them He divided among all

Καὶ ἔφαγον πάντες καὶ ἐχορτάσθησαν

kai ephagon pantes kai echortasthēsan

And ate all And were satisfied

καὶ ἦραν κλάσματα δώδεκα κοφίνων πληρώματα ἀπὸ τῶν ἰχθύων

kai ēran klasmata dōdeka kophinōn plērōmata apo tōn ichthyōn

And took up of fragments twelve hand-baskets full from of the fish

καὶ ἦσαν οἱ φαγόντες τοὺς ἄρτους πεντακισχίλιοι ἄνδρες

kai ēsan hoi phagontes tous artous pentakischilioi andres

And they were - having eaten of the loaves five thousand men

Καὶ εὐθὺς ἠνάγκασεν τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ ἐμβῆναι εἰς τὸ πλοῖον καὶ προάγειν πέραν πρὸς Βηθσαϊδάν ἕως αὐτὸς ἀπολύει τὸν ὄχλον

kai euthys ēnankasen tous mathētas autou embēnai eis to ploion kai proagein peran pros Bēthsaidan heōs autos apolyei ton ochlon

And immediately He compelled the disciples of Him’” to enter for the a boat And to go before beyond to Bethsaida until He should dismiss the crowd

καὶ ἀποταξάμενος αὐτοῖς ἀπῆλθεν εἰς τὸ ὄρος προσεύξασθαι

kai apotaxamenos autois apēlthen eis to oros proseuxasthai

And having taken leave of to them departed for the mountain to pray

Καὶ ὀψίας γενομένης ἦν τὸ πλοῖον ἐν μέσῳ τῆς θαλάσσης καὶ αὐτὸς μόνος ἐπὶ γῆς

kai opsias genomenēs ēn to ploion en mesō tēs thalassēs kai autos monos epi gēs

And evening having come was the a boat in the midst - sea And He alone at land

6:48

καὶ ἰδὼν αὐτοὺς βασανιζομένους ἐν τῷ ἐλαύνειν ἦν γὰρ ὁ ἄνεμος ἐναντίος αὐτοῖς περὶ τετάρτην φυλακὴν τῆς νυκτὸς ἔρχεται πρὸς περιπατῶν ἐπὶ θαλάσσης ἤθελεν παρελθεῖν αὐτούς

kai idōn autous basanizomenous en tō elaunein ēn gar ho anemos enantios autois peri tetartēn phylakēn tēs nyktos erchetai pros peripatōn epi thalassēs ēthelen parelthein autous

And having seen they straining in - rowing was for - wind contrary to them around [the] fourth watch - night comes to walking at sea he wanted to pass by them

οἱ δὲ ἰδόντες αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τῆς θαλάσσης περιπατοῦντα ἔδοξαν ὅτι φάντασμά ἐστιν καὶ ἀνέκραξαν

πάντες γὰρ αὐτὸν εἶδον* καὶ ἐταράχθησαν ὁ Δὲ εὐθὺς ἐλάλησεν μετ’ αὐτῶν λέγει αὐτοῖς Θαρσεῖτε ἐγώ εἰμι μὴ φοβεῖσθε

καὶ ἀνέβη πρὸς αὐτοὺς εἰς τὸ πλοῖον ἐκόπασεν ὁ ἄνεμος λίαν ἐκ περισσοῦ ἐν ἑαυτοῖς ἐξίσταντο
