4:1

Καὶ πάλιν ἤρξατο διδάσκειν παρὰ τὴν θάλασσαν καὶ συνάγεται πρὸς αὐτὸν ὄχλος πλεῖστος ὥστε εἰς πλοῖον ἐμβάντα καθῆσθαι ἐν τῇ θαλάσσῃ πᾶς ὁ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἦσαν
kai palin ērxato didaskein para tēn thalassan kai synagetai pros auton ochlos pleistos hōste eis ploion embanta kathēsthai en tē thalassē pas ho epi tēs gēs ēsan
And again he began to teach by the Sea And was gathered together to him crowd great so as for a boat having entered sat in the sea all - at - land they were

1And again he began to teach beside the sea, and a numerous crowd was gathered to him, so having stepped onto a boat he sat; all were on the land by the sea.

4:2

Καὶ ἐδίδασκεν αὐτοὺς ἐν παραβολαῖς πολλά καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς τῇ διδαχῇ αὐτοῦ
kai edidasken autous en parabolais polla kai elegen autois tē didachē autou
And He was teaching they in parables many things And He said to them the teaching of Him’”

2And he was teaching them many things in parables and he was speaking his teaching to them.

4:3

Ἀκούετε ἰδοὺ ἐξῆλθεν ὁ σπείρων σπεῖραι
Akouete idou exēlthen ho speirōn speirai
Listen Behold it came forth - sowing to sow

3Listen! Look! The sower went out to sow.

4:4

καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ σπείρειν ὃ μὲν ἔπεσεν παρὰ τὴν ὁδόν ἦλθεν τὰ πετεινὰ κατέφαγεν αὐτό
kai egeneto en tō speirein ho men epesen para tēn hodon ēlthen ta peteina katephagen auto
And it came to pass in - he sowed that which - fell by the way [that] came the birds devoured it

4:5

Καὶ ἄλλο ἔπεσεν ἐπὶ τὸ πετρῶδες (καὶ) ὅπου οὐκ εἶχεν γῆν πολλήν καὶ εὐθὺς ἐξανέτειλεν διὰ μὴ ἔχειν βάθος γῆς
kai allo epesen epi to petrōdes kai hopou ouk eichen gēn pollēn kai euthys exaneteilen dia mē echein bathos gēs
And other fell at the rocky place and where not it had soil much And immediately it sprang up on account of not to have depth land

4:6

καὶ ὅτε ἀνέτειλεν ὁ ἥλιος ἐκαυματίσθη διὰ τὸ μὴ ἔχειν ῥίζαν ἐξηράνθη
kai hote aneteilen ho hēlios ekaumatisthē dia to mē echein rhizan exēranthē
And when rose - sun it was scorched on account of the not to have root it withered away

4:7

Καὶ ἄλλο ἔπεσεν εἰς τὰς ἀκάνθας καὶ ἀνέβησαν αἱ ἄκανθαι συνέπνιξαν αὐτό καρπὸν οὐκ ἔδωκεν
kai allo epesen eis tas akanthas kai anebēsan hai akanthai synepnixan auto karpon ouk edōken
And other fell for the thorns And grew up the thorns choked it fruit not he gave

7And another fell among thorns and the thorn bushes grew up and choked it [and] it gave no fruit.

4:8

Καὶ ἄλλα ἔπεσεν εἰς τὴν γῆν καλήν καὶ ἐδίδου καρπὸν ἀναβαίνοντα αὐξανόμενα ἔφερεν ἓν* τριάκοντα ἓν ἑξήκοντα ἑκατόν
kai alla epesen eis tēn gēn kalēn kai edidou karpon anabainonta auxanomena epheren hen triakonta hen hexēkonta hekaton
And other fell for the soil good And began yielding fruit growing up increasing bearing one thirtyfold one sixty a hundred

4:9

Καὶ ἔλεγεν Ὃς ἔχει ὦτα ἀκούειν ἀκουέτω
kai elegen Hos echei ōta akouein akouetō
And He said He who has ears to hear let him hear

4:10

Καὶ ὅτε ἐγένετο κατὰ μόνας ἠρώτων αὐτὸν οἱ περὶ σὺν τοῖς δώδεκα τὰς παραβολάς
kai hote egeneto kata monas ērōtōn auton hoi peri syn tois dōdeka tas parabolas
And when it came to pass with alone began asking him - around with on the twelve the parable

4:11

Καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς Ὑμῖν τὸ μυστήριον δέδοται τῆς βασιλείας τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐκείνοις δὲ τοῖς ἔξω ἐν παραβολαῖς τὰ πάντα γίνεται
kai elegen autois Hymin to mystērion dedotai tēs basileias tou Theou ekeinois de tois exō en parabolais ta panta ginetai
And He said to them To you the mystery has been given - kingdom of the of God To those however on the out in parables the all it came to pass

4:12

ἵνα Βλέποντες βλέπωσιν καὶ μὴ ἴδωσιν Καὶ ἀκούοντες ἀκούωσιν συνιῶσιν Μή‿ ποτε ἐπιστρέψωσιν ἀφεθῇ αὐτοῖς
hina blepontes blepōsin kai mē idōsin kai akouontes akouōsin syniōsin mē pote epistrepsōsin aphethē autois
so that Seeing they might see And not perceive And having heard they might hear understand lest ever they should turn should be forgiven to them

12so that looking, they might look and might not have seen, and hearing, they might hear and might not understand, that they never may have turned and been forgiven.

4:13

Καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς Οὐκ οἴδατε τὴν παραβολὴν ταύτην καὶ πῶς πάσας τὰς παραβολὰς γνώσεσθε;
kai legei autois Ouk oidate tēn parabolēn tautēn kai pōs pasas tas parabolas gnōsesthe
And He says to them Not understand you the parable this? And How all the parables will you understand?

13And he says to them, You have not understood this parable; and how will you come to know all the parables?

4:14

Ὁ σπείρων τὸν λόγον σπείρει
ho speirōn ton logon speirei
- sowing the matter sows

4:15

οὗτοι δέ εἰσιν οἱ παρὰ τὴν ὁδὸν ὅπου σπείρεται ὁ λόγος καὶ ὅταν ἀκούσωσιν εὐθὺς ἔρχεται Σατανᾶς αἴρει τὸν λόγον ἐσπαρμένον εἰς αὐτούς
houtoi de eisin hoi para tēn hodon hopou speiretai ho logos kai hotan akousōsin euthys erchetai Satanas airei ton logon esparmenon eis autous
These now are - by the way where is sown - word And when they hear immediately comes Satan tears away the matter having been sown for them

15Now these are the [ones] beside the path where the word is sown, and when they might have heard, immediately Satan comes and takes away the word having been sown in them.

4:16

Καὶ οὗτοί εἰσιν ὁμοίως οἱ ἐπὶ τὰ πετρώδη σπειρόμενοι οἳ ὅταν ἀκούσωσιν τὸν λόγον εὐθὺς μετὰ χαρᾶς λαμβάνουσιν αὐτόν
kai houtoi eisin homoiōs hoi epi ta petrōdē speiromenoi hoi hotan akousōsin ton logon euthys meta charas lambanousin auton
And these are likewise - at the rocky places sown who when they hear the matter immediately with joy receive Him

16And likewise these are the [ones] sown on the rocky places, who when they might have heard the word, they immediately receive it with joy.

4:17

καὶ οὐκ ἔχουσιν ῥίζαν ἐν ἑαυτοῖς ἀλλὰ πρόσκαιροί εἰσιν εἶτα γενομένης θλίψεως ἢ διωγμοῦ διὰ τὸν λόγον εὐθὺς σκανδαλίζονται
kai ouk echousin rhizan en heautois alla proskairoi eisin eita genomenēs thlipseōs ē diōgmou dia ton logon euthys skandalizontai
And not have root in themselves But temporary are then having come tribulation or persecution on account of the matter immediately they fall away

17And they do not have a root in themselves but are temporary; then tribulation or persecution having come because of the word, they immediately offend.

4:18

Καὶ ἄλλοι εἰσὶν οἱ εἰς τὰς ἀκάνθας σπειρόμενοι οὗτοί εἰσιν τὸν λόγον ἀκούσαντες
kai alloi eisin hoi eis tas akanthas speiromenoi houtoi eisin ton logon akousantes
And these are - for the thorns sown these are the matter having heard [of it]

4:19

καὶ αἱ μέριμναι τοῦ αἰῶνος ἡ ἀπάτη πλούτου περὶ τὰ λοιπὰ ἐπιθυμίαι εἰσπορευόμεναι συμπνίγουσιν τὸν λόγον ἄκαρπος γίνεται
kai hai merimnai tou aiōnos hē apatē ploutou peri ta loipa epithymiai eisporeuomenai sympnigousin ton logon akarpos ginetai
And the cares of the of this age the deceit riches around the other things desires entering in choke the matter unfruitful it came to pass

4:20

Καὶ ἐκεῖνοί εἰσιν οἱ ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν καλὴν σπαρέντες οἵτινες ἀκούουσιν τὸν λόγον καὶ παραδέχονται καρποφοροῦσιν ἓν τριάκοντα ἑξήκοντα ἑκατόν
kai ekeinoi eisin hoi epi tēn gēn kalēn sparentes hoitines akouousin ton logon kai paradechontai karpophorousin hen triakonta hexēkonta hekaton
And these are - at the soil good having been sown such as hear the matter And receive [it] bring forth fruit one thirtyfold sixty a hundred

4:21

Καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς 〈〈ὅτι〉 Μήτι ἔρχεται ὁ λύχνος ἵνα ὑπὸ τὸν μόδιον τεθῇ ἢ τὴν κλίνην; οὐχ ἐπὶ λυχνίαν τεθῇ;
kai elegen autois hoti Mēti erchetai ho lychnos hina hypo ton modion tethē ē tēn klinēn ouch epi lychnian tethē
And He said to them - Not comes - lamp so that by the basket it might be put or the bed? not at lampstand it might be put?

21And he was saying to them, Can it be the lamp comes so that it might be placed under the basket or the couch [and] might not be placed on the lampstand?

4:22

οὐ γάρ ἐστιν 〈〈τι〉 κρυπτὸν ἐὰν μὴ ἵνα φανερωθῇ οὐδὲ ἐγένετο ἀπόκρυφον ἀλλ’ ἔλθῃ εἰς φανερόν
ou gar estin ti krypton ean mē hina phanerōthē oude egeneto apokryphon all’ elthē eis phaneron
not for is which [is] hidden if not so that it should be made manifest nor it came to pass a secret thing but it should come for light

22For what is hidden except that it might be made visible, nor did it become hidden but that it might come into the light.

4:23

Εἴ τις ἔχει ὦτα ἀκούειν ἀκουέτω
ei tis echei ōta akouein akouetō
If anyone has ears to hear let him hear

4:24

Καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς Βλέπετε τί ἀκούετε ἐν ᾧ μέτρῳ μετρεῖτε μετρηθήσεται ὑμῖν καὶ προστεθήσεται
kai elegen autois Blepete ti akouete en hō metrō metreite metrēthēsetai hymin kai prostethēsetai
And He said to them Take heed Which you hear in which measure you measure it will be measured to you And more will be added

4:25

ὃς γὰρ ἔχει δοθήσεται αὐτῷ καὶ οὐκ ὃ ἀρθήσεται ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ
hos gar echei dothēsetai autō kai ouk ho arthēsetai ap’ autou
who for has it will be given to Him And not that which will be taken away from of Him’”

4:26

Καὶ ἔλεγεν Οὕτως ἐστὶν ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ Θεοῦ ὡς ἄνθρωπος βάλῃ τὸν σπόρον ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς
kai elegen Houtōs estin hē basileia tou Theou hōs anthrōpos balē ton sporon epi tēs gēs
And He said Thus is the kingdom of the of God as a man should cast the seed at - land

24And he was saying, This is how the kingdom of God is, like a man threw seed on the earth.

4:27

καὶ καθεύδῃ ἐγείρηται νύκτα ἡμέραν ὁ σπόρος βλαστᾷ μηκύνηται ὡς οὐκ οἶδεν αὐτός
kai katheudē egeirētai nykta hēmeran ho sporos blasta mēkynētai hōs ouk oiden autos
And should sleep rise night day - seed should sprout grow as not knows Himself

27And if he sleeps, if he rises, night, day, the seed might sprout, grow, how he does not himself know.

4:28

αὐτομάτη ἡ γῆ καρποφορεῖ πρῶτον χόρτον εἶτα* στάχυν πλήρης σῖτον* ἐν τῷ στάχυϊ
automatē hē gē karpophorei prōton chorton eita stachyn plērēs siton en tō stachui
Of itself the earth brings forth fruit— first a plant then an ear full grain in - ear

4:29

ὅταν δὲ παραδοῖ ὁ καρπός εὐθὺς ἀποστέλλει τὸ δρέπανον ὅτι παρέστηκεν θερισμός

when however offers itself - fruit immediately he sends the sickle - has come harvest

Καὶ ἔλεγεν Πῶς ὁμοιώσωμεν τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ Θεοῦ ἢ ἐν τίνι αὐτὴν παραβολῇ θῶμεν;

And He said How shall we liken the kingdom of the of God or in what her parable shall we present?

4:31

ὡς κόκκῳ σινάπεως ὃς ὅταν σπαρῇ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς μικρότερον ὂν πάντων τῶν σπερμάτων
hōs kokkō sinapeōs hos hotan sparē epi tēs gēs mikroteron on pantōn tōn spermatōn
as to a grain of mustard who when it has been sown at - land smallest is all of the seeds

31Like a grain of mustard that, when it was sown on the soil, is the smallest of all the seeds.

4:32

καὶ ὅταν σπαρῇ ἀναβαίνει γίνεται μεῖζον πάντων τῶν λαχάνων ποιεῖ κλάδους μεγάλους ὥστε δύνασθαι ὑπὸ τὴν σκιὰν αὐτοῦ τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ κατασκηνοῦν*
kai hotan sparē anabainei ginetai meizon pantōn tōn lachanōn poiei kladous megalous hōste dynasthai hypo tēn skian autou ta peteina tou ouranou kataskēnoun
And when it has been sown He goes up it came to pass greater all of the garden plants it produces branches great so as was able by the shadow of Him’” the birds of the air to perch

32And when it was sown, it comes up to become the greatest of all the garden plants; it produces large branches so in its shadow the birds of the air can dwell.

4:33

Καὶ τοιαύταις παραβολαῖς πολλαῖς ἐλάλει αὐτοῖς τὸν λόγον καθὼς ἠδύναντο ἀκούειν
kai toiautais parabolais pollais elalei autois ton logon kathōs ēdynanto akouein
And with such parables many He was speaking to them the matter as they were able to hear

4:34

χωρὶς δὲ παραβολῆς οὐκ ἐλάλει αὐτοῖς κατ’ ἰδίαν τοῖς ἰδίοις μαθηταῖς ἐπέλυεν πάντα

Without however parables not He was speaking to them With private on the own disciples He would explain all

4:35

Καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ὀψίας γενομένης Διέλθωμεν εἰς τὸ πέραν
kai legei autois en ekeinē tē hēmera opsias genomenēs Dielthōmen eis to peran
And He says to them in those the days evening having come Let us pass over for the beyond

4:36

καὶ ἀφέντες τὸν ὄχλον παραλαμβάνουσιν αὐτὸν ὡς ἦν ἐν τῷ πλοίῳ ἄλλα πλοῖα μετ’ αὐτοῦ
kai aphentes ton ochlon paralambanousin auton hōs ēn en tō ploiō alla ploia met’ autou
And having left the crowd they take with [them] him as was in - boat other boats with of Him’”

4:37

Καὶ γίνεται λαῖλαψ μεγάλη ἀνέμου καὶ τὰ κύματα ἐπέβαλλεν εἰς τὸ πλοῖον ὥστε ἤδη γεμίζεσθαι
kai ginetai lailaps megalē anemou kai ta kymata epeballen eis to ploion hōste ēdē gemizesthai
And it came to pass a storm violent of wind And the waves were breaking for the a boat so as already is being filled up

37And a large storm of wind happened and the waves were being thrown over the boat so now they fill it.

4:38

καὶ αὐτὸς ἦν ἐν τῇ πρύμνῃ ἐπὶ τὸ προσκεφάλαιον καθεύδων ἐγείρουσιν αὐτὸν λέγουσιν αὐτῷ Διδάσκαλε οὐ μέλει σοι ὅτι ἀπολλύμεθα;
kai autos ēn en tē prymnē epi to proskephalaion katheudōn egeirousin auton legousin autō Didaskale ou melei soi hoti apollymetha
And He was in the stern at the cushion sleeping they awaken him they speak to Him Teacher not is it concern to You - we perish?

4:39

Καὶ διεγερθεὶς ἐπετίμησεν τῷ ἀνέμῳ καὶ εἶπεν τῇ θαλάσσῃ Σιώπα πεφίμωσο ἐκόπασεν ὁ ἄνεμος ἐγένετο γαλήνη μεγάλη
kai diegertheis epetimēsen tō anemō kai eipen tē thalassē Siōpa pephimōso ekopasen ho anemos egeneto galēnē megalē
And having been awoken rebuked - wind And said the sea Silence be still abated - wind it came to pass a calm violent

4:40

Καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Τί δειλοί ἐστε οὔπω*; ἔχετε πίστιν;

And said to them What fearful are you? Still not have you faith?

4:41

Καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν φόβον μέγαν καὶ ἔλεγον πρὸς ἀλλήλους Τίς ἄρα οὗτός ἐστιν ὅτι ὁ ἄνεμος ἡ θάλασσα ὑπακούει αὐτῷ;

And they feared [with] fear great And were saying to each other Who then this is - - wind the sea obey Him?
