Luke 14

Luke 13 | Luke 15

14:1

Καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ ἐλθεῖν αὐτὸν εἰς οἶκόν τινος τῶν ἀρχόντων Φαρισαίων σαββάτῳ φαγεῖν ἄρτον καὶ αὐτοὶ ἦσαν παρατηρούμενοι αὐτόν

kai egeneto en tō elthein auton eis oikon tinos tōn archontōn Pharisaiōn sabbatō phagein arton kai autoi ēsan paratēroumenoi auton

And it came to pass in - to come him for home anyone of the rulers Pharisees Sabbath to eat bread And yourselves they were watching Him

14:2

καὶ ἰδοὺ ἄνθρωπός τις ἦν ὑδρωπικὸς ἔμπροσθεν αὐτοῦ

kai idou anthrōpos tis ēn hydrōpikos emprosthen autou

And Behold a man anyone was with dropsy before of Him’”

14:3

καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν πρὸς τοὺς νομικοὺς Φαρισαίους λέγων Ἔξεστιν τῷ σαββάτῳ θεραπεῦσαι ἢ οὔ;

kai apokritheis ho Iēsous eipen pros tous nomikous Pharisaious legōn Exestin tō sabbatō therapeusai ē ou

And He answering - Jesus said to the lawyers to [the] Pharisees saying Is it lawful - Sabbath to heal or not?

14:4

Οἱ δὲ ἡσύχασαν Καὶ ἐπιλαβόμενος ἰάσατο αὐτὸν καὶ ἀπέλυσεν

hoi de hēsychasan kai epilabomenos iasato auton kai apelysen

- however they were silent And having taken hold of healed him And He sent away

14:5

καὶ πρὸς αὐτοὺς εἶπεν Τίνος ὑμῶν υἱὸς ἢ βοῦς εἰς φρέαρ πεσεῖται οὐκ εὐθέως ἀνασπάσει αὐτὸν ἐν ἡμέρᾳ τοῦ σαββάτου;

kai pros autous eipen Tinos hymōn huios ē bous eis phrear peseitai ouk eutheōs anaspasei auton en hēmera tou sabbatou

And to they said Whose [is] you son or an ox for a pit will fall not immediately he will pull up him in days of the Sabbath?

14:6

Καὶ οὐκ ἴσχυσαν ἀνταποκριθῆναι πρὸς ταῦτα

kai ouk ischysan antapokrithēnai pros tauta

And not they had power to reply to these things

14:7

Ἔλεγεν δὲ πρὸς τοὺς κεκλημένους παραβολήν ἐπέχων πῶς τὰς πρωτοκλισίας ἐξελέγοντο λέγων αὐτούς

elegen de pros tous keklēmenous parabolēn epechōn pōs tas prōtoklisias exelegonto legōn autous

He was saying however to the having been invited parable remarking How the first places they were choosing out saying them

14:8

Ὅταν κληθῇς ὑπό τινος εἰς γάμους μὴ κατακλιθῇς τὴν πρωτοκλισίαν μή‿ ποτε ἐντιμότερός σου ᾖ κεκλημένος ὑπ’ αὐτοῦ

Hotan klēthēs hypo tinos eis gamous mē kataklithēs tēn prōtoklisian mē pote entimoteros sou ē keklēmenos hyp’ autou

When you are invited by anyone for a wedding feast not do recline the chief place lest ever [one] more honorable of You he might be invited by of Him’”

14:9

καὶ ἐλθὼν ὁ σὲ αὐτὸν καλέσας ἐρεῖ σοι Δὸς τούτῳ τόπον τότε ἄρξῃ μετὰ αἰσχύνης τὸν ἔσχατον κατέχειν

kai elthōn ho se auton kalesas erei soi Dos toutō topon tote arxē meta aischynēs ton eschaton katechein

And having come - You him having called He will say to You Grant to this [man] a place then you should begin with shame the last to take

14:10

Ἀλλ’ ὅταν κληθῇς πορευθεὶς ἀνάπεσε εἰς τὸν ἔσχατον τόπον ἵνα ἔλθῃ ὁ κεκληκώς σε ἐρεῖ σοι Φίλε προσανάβηθι ἀνώτερον τότε ἔσται δόξα ἐνώπιον πάντων τῶν συνανακειμένων

all’ hotan klēthēs poreutheis anapese eis ton eschaton topon hina elthē ho keklēkōs se erei soi Phile prosanabēthi anōteron tote estai doxa enōpion pantōn tōn synanakeimenōn

but when you are invited having gone recline for the last a place so that it should come - having invited You He will say to You Friend come up higher then it will be glory before all of the reclining

14:11

ὅτι πᾶς ὁ ὑψῶν ἑαυτὸν ταπεινωθήσεται καὶ ταπεινῶν ὑψωθήσεται

hoti pas ho hypsōn heauton tapeinōthēsetai kai tapeinōn hypsōthēsetai

- all - exalting himself will be humbled And humbling will be exalted

14:12

Ἔλεγεν δὲ καὶ τῷ κεκληκότι αὐτόν Ὅταν ποιῇς ἄριστον ἢ δεῖπνον μὴ φώνει τοὺς φίλους σου μηδὲ ἀδελφούς συγγενεῖς γείτονας πλουσίους μή‿ ποτε αὐτοὶ ἀντικαλέσωσίν σε γένηται ἀνταπόδομά σοι

elegen de kai tō keklēkoti auton Hotan poiēs ariston ē deipnon mē phōnei tous philous sou mēde adelphous syngeneis geitonas plousious mē pote autoi antikalesōsin se genētai antapodoma soi

He was saying however And - having invited Him When you do a dinner or a banquet not call the friends of You not even brothers relatives neighbors rich lest ever yourselves should invite in return You becomes recompense to You

14:13

ἀλλ’ ὅταν δοχὴν ποιῇς κάλει πτωχούς ἀναπείρους χωλούς τυφλούς

all’ hotan dochēn poiēs kalei ptōchous anapeirous chōlous typhlous

but when a banquet you do call the poor the crippled lame blind

14:14

καὶ μακάριος ἔσῃ ὅτι οὐκ ἔχουσιν ἀνταποδοῦναί σοι ἀνταποδοθήσεται γάρ ἐν τῇ ἀναστάσει τῶν δικαίων

kai makarios esē hoti ouk echousin antapodounai soi antapodothēsetai gar en tē anastasei tōn dikaiōn

And Blessed [is] you will be - not have to repay to You It will be recompensed for in the resurrection of the righteous

14:15

Ἀκούσας δέ τις τῶν συνανακειμένων ταῦτα εἶπεν αὐτῷ Μακάριος ὅστις φάγεται ἄρτον ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τοῦ Θεοῦ

akousas de tis tōn synanakeimenōn tauta eipen autō Makarios hostis phagetai arton en tē basileia tou Theou

Having heard now anyone of the reclining these things said to Him Blessed who will eat bread in the kingdom of the of God

14:16

Ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ἄνθρωπός τις ἐποίει δεῖπνον μέγα καὶ ἐκάλεσεν πολλούς

ho de eipen autō Anthrōpos tis epoiei deipnon mega kai ekalesen pollous

- however said to Him A man anyone he did a banquet large And He called many

14:17

καὶ ἀπέστειλεν τὸν δοῦλον αὐτοῦ τῇ ὥρᾳ τοῦ δείπνου εἰπεῖν τοῖς κεκλημένοις Ἔρχεσθε ὅτι ἤδη ἕτοιμά ἐστιν

kai apesteilen ton doulon autou tē hōra tou deipnou eipein tois keklēmenois Erchesthe hoti ēdē hetoima estin

And He sent the a servant of Him’” the hour of the supper to say on the having been invited Come - already ready is

14:18

Καὶ ἤρξαντο ἀπὸ μιᾶς πάντες παραιτεῖσθαι ὁ πρῶτος εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ἀγρὸν ἠγόρασα καὶ ἔχω ἀνάγκην ἐξελθὼν ἰδεῖν αὐτόν ἐρωτῶ σε ἔχε με παρῃτημένον

kai ērxanto apo mias pantes paraiteisthai ho prōtos eipen autō Agron ēgorasa kai echō anankēn exelthōn idein auton erōtō se eche me parētēmenon

And began from one [voice] all to excuse themselves - first said to Him A field I have bought And have need having gone out to see Him I beg of You hold me excused

14:19

Καὶ ἕτερος εἶπεν Ζεύγη βοῶν ἠγόρασα πέντε καὶ πορεύομαι δοκιμάσαι αὐτά ἐρωτῶ σε ἔχε με παρῃτημένον

kai heteros eipen Zeugē boōn ēgorasa pente kai poreuomai dokimasai auta erōtō se eche me parētēmenon

And the other said Yoke of oxen I have bought five And I am going to prove them I beg of You hold me excused

14:20

Καὶ ἕτερος εἶπεν Γυναῖκα ἔγημα καὶ διὰ τοῦτο οὐ δύναμαι ἐλθεῖν

kai heteros eipen Gynaika egēma kai dia touto ou dynamai elthein

And the other said A wife I have married And on account of this not I am able to come

14:21

Καὶ παραγενόμενος ὁ δοῦλος ἀπήγγειλεν τῷ κυρίῳ αὐτοῦ ταῦτα τότε ὀργισθεὶς οἰκοδεσπότης εἶπεν δούλῳ Ἔξελθε ταχέως εἰς τὰς πλατείας καὶ ῥύμας τῆς πόλεως τοὺς πτωχοὺς ἀναπείρους τυφλοὺς χωλοὺς εἰσάγαγε ὧδε

kai paragenomenos ho doulos apēngeilen tō kyriō autou tauta tote orgistheis oikodespotēs eipen doulō Exelthe tacheōs eis tas plateias kai rhymas tēs poleōs tous ptōchous anapeirous typhlous chōlous eisagage hōde

And having come - slave told [it] - master of Him’” these things then having been angry a master of a house said [the] servant You come forth quickly for the streets And lanes - city the poor the crippled blind lame bring in here

14:22

Καὶ εἶπεν ὁ δοῦλος Κύριε γέγονεν ὃ ἐπέταξας καὶ ἔτι τόπος ἐστίν

kai eipen ho doulos Kyrie gegonen ho epetaxas kai eti topos estin

And said - slave Lord had been done that which you did command And still place He is

14:23

Καὶ εἶπεν ὁ κύριος πρὸς τὸν δοῦλον Ἔξελθε εἰς τὰς ὁδοὺς καὶ φραγμοὺς ἀνάγκασον εἰσελθεῖν ἵνα γεμισθῇ μου οἶκος

kai eipen ho kyrios pros ton doulon Exelthe eis tas hodous kai phragmous anankason eiselthein hina gemisthē mou oikos

And said - master to the a servant You come forth for the highways And hedges compel [them] to enter so that may be filled of Me a house

14:24

λέγω γὰρ ὑμῖν ὅτι οὐδεὶς τῶν ἀνδρῶν ἐκείνων κεκλημένων γεύσεταί μου τοῦ δείπνου

legō gar hymin hoti oudeis tōn andrōn ekeinōn keklēmenōn geusetai mou tou deipnou

I say for to you - no one of the men same having been invited will taste of Me of the supper

14:25

Συνεπορεύοντο δὲ αὐτῷ ὄχλοι πολλοί καὶ στραφεὶς εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς

Syneporeuonto de autō ochloi polloi kai strapheis eipen pros autous

Were going with however to Him crowds many And having turned said to them

14:26

Εἴ τις ἔρχεται πρός με καὶ οὐ μισεῖ τὸν πατέρα ἑαυτοῦ* τὴν μητέρα γυναῖκα τὰ τέκνα τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς τὰς ἀδελφάς ἔτι τε ψυχὴν ἑαυτοῦ δύναται εἶναί μου μαθητής

ei tis erchetai pros me kai ou misei ton patera heautou tēn mētera gynaika ta tekna tous adelphous tas adelphas eti te psychēn heautou dynatai einai mou mathētēs

If anyone comes to me And not hates the father of himself the mother wife the children the brothers the sisters still both Life itself is able to be of Me disciple

14:27

ὅστις οὐ βαστάζει τὸν σταυρὸν ἑαυτοῦ καὶ ἔρχεται ὀπίσω μου δύναται εἶναί μαθητής

hostis ou bastazei ton stauron heautou kai erchetai opisō mou dynatai einai mathētēs

who not carries the cross itself And comes after of Me is able to be disciple

14:28

Τίς γὰρ ἐξ ὑμῶν θέλων πύργον οἰκοδομῆσαι οὐχὶ πρῶτον καθίσας ψηφίζει τὴν δαπάνην εἰ ἔχει εἰς ἀπαρτισμόν;

Tis gar ex hymōn thelōn pyrgon oikodomēsai ouchi prōton kathisas psēphizei tēn dapanēn ei echei eis apartismon

Who for out of you willing a tower to rebuild it Do not first having sat down counts the cost if has for [its] completion?

14:29

ἵνα μή ποτε θέντος αὐτοῦ θεμέλιον καὶ μὴ ἰσχύοντος ἐκτελέσαι πάντες οἱ θεωροῦντες ἄρξωνται αὐτῷ ἐμπαίζειν

hina mē pote thentos autou themelion kai mē ischyontos ektelesai pantes hoi theōrountes arxōntai autō empaizein

so that not ever he having laid of Him’” a foundation And not being able to finish all - seeing [it] may begin to Him to mock

14:30

λέγοντες ὅτι Οὗτος ὁ ἄνθρωπος ἤρξατο οἰκοδομεῖν καὶ οὐκ ἴσχυσεν ἐκτελέσαι

legontes hoti Houtos ho anthrōpos ērxato oikodomein kai ouk ischysen ektelesai

saying - This - a man he began to build And not was able to finish

14:31

Ἢ τίς βασιλεὺς πορευόμενος ἑτέρῳ βασιλεῖ συμβαλεῖν εἰς πόλεμον οὐχὶ καθίσας πρῶτον βουλεύσεται εἰ δυνατός ἐστιν ἐν δέκα χιλιάσιν ὑπαντῆσαι τῷ μετὰ εἴκοσι χιλιάδων ἐρχομένῳ ἐπ’ αὐτόν;

ē tis basileus poreuomenos heterō basilei symbalein eis polemon ouchi kathisas prōton bouleusetai ei dynatos estin en deka chiliasin hypantēsai tō meta eikosi chiliadōn erchomenō ep’ auton

Or who King proceeding other a king to engage for war Do not having sat down first will take counsel if Mighty One is in ten thousand to meet - with twenty thousand is coming in Him?

14:32

εἰ δὲ μή¦γε ἔτι αὐτοῦ πόρρω ὄντος πρεσβείαν ἀποστείλας ἐρωτᾷ τὰ πρὸς εἰρήνην

ei de mēge eti autou porrō ontos presbeian aposteilas erōta ta pros eirēnēn

if however otherwise still of Him’” far away being an embassy having sent asked the to peace

14:33

Οὕτως οὖν πᾶς ἐξ ὑμῶν ὃς οὐκ ἀποτάσσεται πᾶσιν τοῖς ἑαυτοῦ ὑπάρχουσιν οὐ δύναται εἶναί μου μαθητής

Houtōs oun pas ex hymōn hos ouk apotassetai pasin tois heautou hyparchousin ou dynatai einai mou mathētēs

Thus therefore all out of you who not does give up among all on the itself possessing not is able to be of Me disciple

14:34

Καλὸν οὖν τὸ ἅλας ἐὰν δὲ καὶ μωρανθῇ ἐν τίνι ἀρτυθήσεται;

Kalon oun to halas ean de kai mōranthē en tini artythēsetai

Good [is] therefore the salt if however And becomes tasteless in what will it be seasoned?

14:35

οὔτε εἰς γῆν κοπρίαν εὔθετόν ἐστιν ἔξω βάλλουσιν αὐτό Ὁ ἔχων ὦτα ἀκούειν ἀκουέτω

oute eis gēn koprian eutheton estin exō ballousin auto ho echōn ōta akouein akouetō

neither for soil manure fit is out pour they it - having ears to hear let him hear
